Community guidelines

Last updated: 19 October 2026

A camp works when everyone around the fire can talk without looking over their shoulder. These guidelines apply to everything on BirchCamp: posts, profiles, links and replies.

The spirit of it

Write as yourself, credit the people whose work you build on and reply to others the way you would want to be answered. Disagreement is welcome; contempt is not. If you would not say it to someone sitting across the fire from you, leave it out.

What does not belong here

  • Anything illegal, or content that helps someone break the law.
  • Malware, phishing and deceptive links: links that hide where they lead, pages that try to collect passwords or payment details, and downloads that harm a device.
  • Harassment, hate and threats against anyone, including pile-ons in replies.
  • Other people’s private information, such as home addresses, phone numbers or private messages, shared without their consent.
  • Impersonation of a real person, brand or organisation in a way meant to mislead.
  • Plagiarism and copyright infringement. Quote briefly, credit clearly and link the source. Do not republish someone else’s work as your own.
  • Sexual content involving minors, ever. We remove it and report it.

Replies

Keep replies on the subject of the post and keep them civil. Promotional replies, link drops and repeated messages are not approved. A moderator reads every reply before it appears, so a reply that breaks these guidelines simply never shows up.

Links are ordinary links. Writers may point to their own websites and to their sources, as long as the link is honest about where it leads and the page behind it follows these guidelines too.

How moderation works

Moderators may remove a post, a reply or a profile that breaks these guidelines, and may close a blog after serious or repeated problems. Where it makes sense we tell the writer what was removed and why.

Reporting something

Seen something that does not belong? Go to the contact page, choose Report a post or comment and include the link. If it is your own work copied without permission, choose Copyright and send both the original and the copy. Every report is read.
